Continuing the countdown…
5 – Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
I’ve always been a little suspicious of the OTT praise that rains down on Arcade Fire, whose music has always come across as a bit cold and detached to me. However, this third album is exactly as good as critics have been saying it is, and it’s a heck of a lot easier to listen to, certainly than Neon Bible. Wistful, nostalgic and melodic, this is a keeper.
6 – Cee Lo Green – The Ladykiller
Cee Lo has managed to be involved in some of the catchiest songs of the last five or so years, not least Crazy, and Fuck You/Forget You from his third solo album is right up there, despite the rather radio-unfriendly original title and chorus. The Ladykiller is far from just a one-hit release though, it’s jam-packed with great soul songs and exquisite production to match his gorgeous vocals. Probably his most consistent release so far.
