Ever since a school friend gave me a cassette with Weezer’s debut album on one side (Dookie was on the other, and, yes, I’ve bought both since) back in 1995, I’ve been a huge fan. So here’s my Album-By-Album reviews for a band who often divide opinion even within their own fanbase.
Death To False Metal (2010)
The second album released in 2010 (and on the same day as the Pinkerton deluxe edition to boot), Death To False Metal is a collection of tracks recorded over the years that didn’t make it onto their albums. Given the inconsistent quality levels of some of those, you probably wouldn’t expect it to hang together and be as impressive as this is, or for it to fit in so well as a companion piece to Hurley. But I’m A Robot and The Odd Couple are both great songs and the cover of Unbreak My Heart is surprisingly good, and it all adds up to a second really good album in a matter of months from a band seemingly back on the up.
